The Council was formed in 1974 by international development agencies active in Saskatchewan. Now it encompasses the local committees of 35 major churches, educational organizations and international development agencies.
Our Purposes and Function As the umbrella organization for international development agencies in Saskatchewan, SCIC has many tasks:
- to disburse international development funds provided by the Government of Saskatchewan,
- to lead and support cooperative local activities in government relations, public education, and fundraising,
- to facilitate communication among member agencies in Saskatchewan and across the country, and
- to explore new opportunities for Saskatchewan people to get involved in international cooperation and development.
Mission Statement The Saskatchewan Council for International Cooperation is a coalition of organizations involved
in international development and committed to the recognition of the dignity of all people and their right to self-determination, to the protection of the world's fragile environment, and to the
promotion of global understanding, cooperation, peace and justice. This is achieved through:
- providing a structure within which members can share, learn and grow by interacting with one another,
- facilitating the provision of information and education about global issues,
- advocating on international issues, and
- administering grants for international development assistance and education.
